The BCB will not wait and is rather looking to hold the election by the end of September
The current term of the Bangladesh Cricket Board under president Nazmul Hasan is set to end this month.
Though there is provision of holding the election in 45 days, the BCB will not wait and is rather looking to hold the election by the end of September.
Ministry of Youth and Sports will announce the date for the election soon.
The board earlier this month named a five-member election commission for conducting the upcoming Board of Directors' Election 2021, and the councilor have finished submitting their respective forms meeting the deadline Monday.
The BCB election will be held in three categories.
In category one, 12 directors are elected from and by the Dhaka League Clubs.
In category two, 10 directors are elected from and by the district sports associations.
In category three, one director is elected with votes of the councilors in the form of former cricketers, university, education board and government agencies.
According to close sources to the board, BCB president Nazmul is personally handpicking the nominations of the directors and thus, most of the current members of the board have a common answer when asked about the election – "I don’t know much of what is happening."
A total of 23 directors will be elected form the three categories, while the National Sports Council will nominate two directors to finally form a 25-member BCB committee and run cricket in the country for the next four years.
It is understood that the board is looking to replace the controversial directors and also those who have not been very active.
The most changes are likely to come in category one.
Current directors Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan and Hanif Bhuiyan will not take part in the election this time, while Showkat Aziz Russell and Tanjil Chowdhury are set to lose their chairs.
It has been learnt that Tanjil has decided to step down on his own.
In place of deceased BCB director Afzalur Rahman Sinha, his son Fahim Sinha is on course to step into the board.
From Dhaka, Naimur Rahman and Rasel Ahmed Tuhin, son of Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid, are to take part in the election.
From Rajshahi, chances are high for director Shafiul Alam Shapon to not remain at the helm.
As replacement, former Bangladesh captain Khaled Mashud is preparing to participate in the election.
Veteran BCB director Mahbubul Anam and Masuduzzaman are to be directors from Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited.
AJM Nasir Uddin and Akram Khan are set to remain as representatives from Chittagong.
Advocate Anwarul Islam from Rangpur and Sheikh Sohel and Kazi Inam Ahmed from Khulna and Nadel Ahmed Chowdhury from Sylhet will remain in the board.
A decision is still pending if Alamgir Khan Alo will remain as the director from Barisal.
Current BCB game development chairman Khaled Mahmud Sujon will contest from category three, and it is understood that the former Bangladesh cricketer has already been able to assure majority of votes.
BCB nominates 13 counselors in category three involving five former cricketers.
Minhajul Abedin Nannu, Shahriar Nafees and Rajin Saleh have already been made counselors in this category along with others.
Monday was the deadline for submitting nominations of the counselors.
