Bangladesh in the two series at home, against Australia and New Zealand, were on top winning both 4-1 and 3-2 respectively. However, the wickets at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in both the series were point of discussion as it went to aid the bowlers, especially the spinner heavily, making the games low scoring and put the batters in struggle

Star all-rounder Shakib al Hasan has shed light on the under preparation of the Bangladesh batting unit ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Shakib raised concerns about the lack of form of the batsmen and the role of the sub-standard wickets prepared in Mirpur that  exacerbating the situation.

Shakib speaking to the media at a commercial event on Saturday cited extreme caution for the Bangladesh batsmen ahead of the world event set to take place in UAE and Oman starting next month.

Bangladesh in the two series at home, against Australia and New Zealand, were on top winning both 4-1 and 3-2 respectively. “Those who played in these last 9-10 matches, are almost all in off-form. That is how the wickets are and no-one did that well. It's better not to read too much into these performances. If any batsman plays 10-15 matches on these wickets, his career will be destroyed," the all-rounder said before putting a positive spin of things by saying, "Let us not read too much into these. Those who are in the team have the capability to win for the country. Everyone is doing his best from his own position,” said Shakib.

Bangladesh T20I captain Mahmudullah scored the most in the two series, 211 in 10 innings including three unbeaten knocks. Opener Mohammad Naim Sheikh scored 196 in the 10 games while middle-order batter Afif Hossain scored 167 in nine innings.

Ace all-rounder Shakib believes the wickets in Oman and UAE will help the struggling Bangladesh batsmen to find form ahead of the big tournament.

“Our team will be in Oman at least 15-16 days before the World Cup, which is enough time for acclimatizing with conditions and wickets. I don't think pitches and conditions here will have any impact over there. We have built a winning mentality, which will help us be confident in the World Cup," said the left-arm all-rounder.

Shakib and left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman is set to leave for UAE for the second phase of the Indian Premier League that is set to start on September 19.

“I am hopeful that the IPL will help everyone. We will be spending time in those conditions, play matches too. Mustafiz and I can share the experience with the rest of the team. We will understand the other players' mindset, what they are thinking about the World Cup, and then report it back to our players,” said Shakib.
