Bangladesh will have their feet firmly on the ground despite leading the series 1-0 when they take on visitors Australia in the second match of the five-T20I series at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Wednesday.

Hosts Bangladesh made a flying start to the series winning the first game by 23 runs defending 131 Tuesday at the same venue.

The victory was Bangladesh's first in the format against Australia in five encounters.

Bangladesh were down with just 131 on the board, but taking advantage of the traditional slow and low Mirpur wicket, used spin right from the first ball.

Man of the match Nasum Ahmed shared the new ball with Mahedi Hasan and finished with career best 4/19 in the format.

Mahedi and left-arm spinner Shakib al Hasan picked up early wickets too, and kept things tight all through.

The duo picked up a wicket each.

“I am not over the top at the moment. It’s a match that we have won and it is now gone. We should now be focusing on the next game [Wednesday] from now on, try to execute the plans and try to be on the top from the first ball. We should try to manage ourselves well and keep our feet on the ground,” said Bangladesh T20I captain Mahmudullah to the media following the first match Tuesday.

Mahmudullah stressed that the win was an outcome of the hunger Bangladesh team had going into the game.

The four times Bangladesh had played Australia in the format, all in the World T20I, the Kangaroos had won convincingly.

Bangladesh though came into the series with a 2-1 T20I series win in the tour of Zimbabwe last week.

“We had a team talk that we are probably 10 runs short [in the first T20I] so we have to field well and make sure to take the chances. The fielding was outstanding, the energy was there. The hunger was there to win the game and I think the bowlers executed their plans really well. That’s what matters when you are defending a small total. You always need to have an attacking mind set to go up front and take some early wicket and that’s what we did,” said Mahmudullah.

“Definitely Australia are a good side [compared to Zimbabwe]. Probably we need to tick the boxes where we failed [Tuesday] and try not to repeat those mistakes in the next game [Wednesday]. Having said that, the hunger needs to be there to win games for Bangladesh,” he added.

The second T20I of the series between Bangladesh and Australia will begin at 6:00pm and will be shown live on GTV and T Sports.
