Soumya scored a 49-ball 68 to inspire Bangladesh to their second biggest chase in the format, 194 runs, and a five-wicket victory to win the series 2-1
Opener Soumya Sarkar informed that he had to wait for the right time to propel Bangladesh’s chase in the third and final T20I against hosts Zimbabwe Sunday.
Left-handed batsmanSoumya scored a 49-ball 68 to inspire Bangladesh to their second biggest chase in the format, 194 runs, and a five-wicket victory to win the series 2-1.
With the win in the T20I series, Bangladesh will head home with a hat-trick of trophies from Zimbabwe having won the lone Test and the three-match ODI series as well.
Soumya for his heroics in the third game, which also include two crucial wickets conceding 19 runs in three overs, was adjudged the Man of the Match.
The 28-year old all-rounder was also awarded the Man of the Series for scoring 126 runs in three matches, laced with two half centuries, and three wickets.
“The ball was behaving unpredictable in the beginning. So I thought to not force myself to score runs but wait. I waited for the right time to go after the ball and for a big over for the momentum to shift to us. I was also trying to hit a boundary in every over,” said Soumya following the game.
“The most important thing for me is that I perform for the team. I do not think much of my position [in the team] but focus on giving my best in the middle,” the Satkhira cricketer added.
Bangladesh while cruising to the mammoth target, were in a spot of bother, reeling on 150 for 4 in 15.4 and needed another 44 off 26 deliveries.
But young middle-order batsman Shamim Hossain Patwari emerged as the hero to brush off the pressure, and played an unbeaten 31-run innings off 15 deliveries in his second international appearance.
Soumya praising the match winning effort from the youngest member in the dressing room said, “Shamim played an important role. The good thing I felt about him was that he was positive the whole time he was batting and showed the hunger to win the game for the team. It was fun to see him play and despite it being his second game he has successfully produced a match winning effort.”
