Nurul and Tanbir guided Sheikh Jamal to victory over Mohammedan in Mirpur Wednesday
In the first two Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League Twenty20 matches of the day at different venues, Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited beat Mohammedan Sporting Club Ltd by six wickets in the Super League, while Legends of Rupganj defeated Partex Sporting Club by 27 runs in the Relegation League.
Mohammedan v Sheikh Jamal
Wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan and all-rounder Tanbir Hayder guided Sheikh Jamal to victory over Mohammedan at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Wednesday.
Chasing 134, Nurul struck an unbeaten 36 off 31 balls with two boundaries and one over boundary, while Tanbir blazed his way to 32.
Tanbir in his 17-ball innings hit three fours and two sixes to steer Sheikh Jamal to their second win in three matches in the Super League.
The innings got off to a shaky start as opener Saykat Ali departed for a duck.
The situation however, got stabled as Mohammad Ashraful and Imrul Kayes added 38 and 25 to the board respectively.
Earlier, Mohammedan were asked to bat first and found Shamsur Rahman score 49 off 40 balls to boost the innings to 133 for the loss of nine wickets after 20 overs, despite a middle-order debacle.
Sheikh Jamal pace duo Ebadat Hossain and Ziaur Rahman picked up three wickets each to keep the opposition batters at bay.
Opener Parvez Hossain Emon contributed a 35-ball 46 with three boundaries and as many over boundaries.
No other batsmen could score more than 20 in the innings.
Partex v Rupganj
Opener Mehedi Maruf hammered 94 off 63 deliveries, while his partner Jaker Ali added 76 off 48 balls to propel Rupganj to a mammoth total against Partex at BKSP, and register a comprehensive win.
Rupganj avoided relegation with a win in the previous game, against Old DOHS Tuesday, and this appeared to have galvanized the side.
Rupganj ended the season on a high, posting 200 on the board, the highest total in the tournament.
Chasing the big total, Partex managed to score 173 losing eight wickets after 20 overs.
Isharul Islam remained not out on 38 with Jaynul Islam on 37 at the end of the innings.
Rupganj spinner Sohag Gazi topped the side’s bowling attack with three wickets, followed by another spinner Sanjamul Islam with two scalps.
The relegation league for the season concluded with this game.
DOHS and Partex got demoted to the 1st Division Dhaka League, having secured just eight and one point in the tournament respectively.
