Shakib had missed out from the last contract due to a two-year ban, with one year of that suspended, imposed by the ICC
Ace all-rounder Shakib al Hasan is set to return to the Bangladesh Cricket Board central contract after around a year.
BCB president Nazmul Hasan following the 10th board meeting Tuesday informed that the declaration of the names will come in a couple of days after the BCB cricket operations committee speaks to the cricketers and set the format/s of cricket they are interested to play.
Shakib had missed out from the last contract due to a two-year ban, with one year of that suspended, imposed by the International Cricket Council.
The 34-year old had accepted three charges of breaching the ICC anti-corruption code, which include failure to report corrupt approaches.
“We are yet to decide on Shakib’s contract [if he is willing to play all formats for Bangladesh]. We are yet to speak to the cricketers and find out who wants to play which format. We have set our list, but also need to know what the players are thinking,” said Nazmul to the media following the meeting at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Tuesday.
Though the BCB boss did not announce the names, it is understood that along with Shakib, pacer Taskin Ahmed, all-rounder Mahedi Hasan and few new names are set to be added to the central contract.
A total of 18 to 20 cricketers will part of the contract.
“The cricket operations will inform the final list in a day or two. It is a list of 18 to 20 cricketers including fresh names. In the meeting we did not have explanations on the players who are being added or omitted from the list. So we have left it to the BCB cricket operations. They will give out names and explanations,” said Nazmul.
