Ace Bangladesh motorsport driver Avik Anwar earned more plaudits for the country when he won two races in the UAE NGK Procar Championship at Dubai Autodrome International Circuit Friday.
Avik later dedicated the first race win to the independent people of Bangladesh, on the historic occasion of the Independence Day, and the second race triumph to his mother, who is battling with the Covid-19 infection.

Avik had it all to do in the first race as he had to start last on the grid after qualifying failure, before eventually winning with an unreliable replacement car.
In the second race, Avik again had to start last in the grid, with the first race finishing roles reversed, as is customary, but repeated the trick to triumph ahead of the rest, and winning the driver of the day award in the process.
As the first Bangladeshi racer to win an international motorsports event, Avik Anwar created history by winning the UAE Pro Championship GT86 Class this year.Posted by Sports Tribune on Tuesday, 2 February 2021
Avik, Bangladesh's first ever motorsport winner in an international competition, has previously won races in India and Malaysia, but this time he had to battle against all odds.
He said on social media, "I had to graft really hard for these wins. My car broke down in qualifying. But my miseries don't stop there. My mother back home in Bangladesh is corona positive, until then I took care of her but I then I had to leave for the UAE for these races! I am battling illness myself and taking two antibiotics daily. I want to thank the Almighty and all of you for your support."
