Asrorov netted the all-important goal five minutes into the second half in the Group A opener
Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra kicked off their Federation Cup 2020 campaign with a solitary goal victory against Police FC at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka Thursday.
Debutant, Tajikistan defender Siyovush Asrorov, one of the top performers of Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society last season, netted the all-important goal five minutes into the second half in the Group A opener.
Russel’s new Brazilian striker Giancarlo Rodrigues started up front despite his late arrival but couldn’t impress on debut.
He was replaced by Rumon Hossain at the hour mark.
Other new signings – Kyrgyzstan’s Baktyiar Duishobekov from Bashundhara Kings and Nigerian Obi Moneke from Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited – also started but their positions were changed.

Moneke usually played in midfield previously but Saiful Bari Titu fielded him on both left and right wing before eventually placing him as striker after Rodrigues was substituted.
He created a good chance with a cross in the 32nd minute but Toklis Ahmed wasted it by heading wide.
Police under new Sri Lankan coach Packeer Ali made a good start but lacked the instinct to trouble the opponent’s compact defence led by Siyovush with Baktyiar around.
In the 40th minute, their Kyrgyz midfielder Murolimzhon Akhmedov tried his luck from some 20 yards but it went straight to the keeper.
Baktyiar played both in defence and defensive midfield and it was his delightful free-kick that helped Siyovush find the back of the net through a close-range placing.
