Gemcon Khulna team manager Nafees Iqbal in a statement to the media informed the team respected Shakib's decision of leaving and be with family in the time of need
Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will not be available for Gemcon Khulna in the final of the Bangabandhu Cup T20. Due to a family emergency, Shakib left the team on Monday night and is scheduled to leave Dhaka on Tuesday to see his ailing father-in-law in USA.
Gemcon Khulna team manager Nafees Iqbal in a statement to the media informed the team respected Shakib's decision of leaving and be with family in the time of need.
“Shakib's father-in-law has been ill for some time now. After yesterday's (on Monday against Gazi Group Chattogram) match, Shakib informed me that the situation is critical and it will be better if he can attend the family,” said Nafees on Tuesday afternoon.
“We shared Shakib’s situation it with our team owners. We respect that family comes first and we have no objection to his decision. Shakib left the team hotel last night (Monday), and his flight to the US is tonight,” the former Bangladesh batsman added.
Shakib made a return to cricket, following the completion of oa one-year ban imposed by the International Cricket Council, with the ongoing Bangabandhu T20 Cup. Shakib in nine matches for Gemcon Khulna has taken six wickets and scored 110 runs.
Before leaving the southpaw made quickfire 28 and took one wicket conceding 31 runs in Khulna’s crucial win against Gazi Group Chattogram in the 1st Qualifier of the tournament.
