Kings one step away from title after beating Nasrin

Bashundhara Kings took a giant step towards securing the third edition of the Tricotex Women’s Football League after beating nearest challenger Nasrin Football Academy 2-0 in Kamalapur Friday.

Table-topper Kings now have a six-point lead over Nasrin FA with only three games left.

Nasrin FA battled gamely throughout the campaign against runaway Kings, who have past everyone along their way, scoring a total of 77 goals, and conceding just one, in nine matches.

Thanks to their goal difference, one more draw in their next game against Kumilla United Tuesday at the same venue will be enough to crown the Kings, with Nasrin’s goal difference paling in comparison – scored 36 and conceded 13.

In the virtual six-pointer, the Kings took the lead through Sheuli Azim in the 17th minute, before Tohura Khatun scored from the spot in the 42nd minute. 

With three games to go, veteran striker Sabina Khatun will be looking to add to her league highest 21 goals, which is four short of her own tally for Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited in 2011.

Such has been the Kings’ dominance in the league, the second and third highest scorers are also from Bashundhara – Srimoti Krishna Rani Sarkar (15) and Tohura (11).
