Dhaka hunt for title with Mushfiq and young guns

The eagerness and tenacity of Mushfiq for winning attracted Beximco Dhaka and they believe those qualities will help the side gain success

In franchise-based domestic tournaments any team named Dhaka are always termed pre-tournament favorite but Beximco Dhaka are not getting the distinction, although they are hopeful to fight with a young team.

Despite being loaded with many young guns, Dhaka will look forward to shine bright with the dazzling performances from Mushfiqur Rahim, one of the most compact and experienced cricketers on the land.

As a matter of fact the paramount importance of the diminutive batsman was evident as Dhaka decided to pick him over ace all-rounder Shakib al Hasan or premium batsman Tamim Iqbal when they got the opportunity to pick a player among all the five teams in the draft.

The coach of Dhaka, Khaled Mahmud said the eagerness and tenacity of Mushfiq for winning attracted them and he believes those qualities will help the side gain success.

Dhaka also picked Rubel Hossain, one of the most experienced pacers of the country, but apart from Mushfiq and Rubel the other players of the side are young and hence, less experienced.

With the Bangabandhu T20 Cup knocking at the door, the participating teams began training at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium and its adjacent premises Saturday.

Mahmud explained the matter by saying as they had the opportunity of picking players in the very first turn of the first two rounds, they had to pick last in the other rounds and hence missed experienced players who were roped in by other teams.

But the former cricketer and current BCB director saw the bright side of it as well.

He thinks the players will be eager to prove themselves in this tournament to get bigger opportunities, and the energy of the team will be boosted.

Mahmud, who has the experience of coaching several teams in many levels, also believes with no foreign players in the tournament, the local players will take extra responsibilities and their experience in these tough matches will also help Bangladesh side in future.
