Sports personalities, politicians, fans and well-wishers of Badal Roy paid the final tributes to the former legendary footballer and organizer before his cremation took place in the capital’s Bardeshwari kali temple and crematorium Monday.
Badal’s body was first brought to the premises of Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited where he spent his entire career before serving the traditional outfit as manager and organizer until his death.
In the midst of hundreds of Mohammedan supporters, former and current players of the clubs showed respect to one of their most celebrated footballers and life-time member with flowers and bouquets.
After around an hour at the favorite club, his body was then in the noon taken to the Bangabandhu National Stadium where he had uncountable memories as player, manager, organizer and sports administrator.
Former and current athletes, organizers, colleagues, fans, representatives of different sports federations and organizations paid the last homage to one of the iconic forwards of the 1980s and a successful organizer afterwards.
Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, while being present at the BNS, urged all to work together to carry out Badal’s vision to bring back football’s lost glories.
Badal’s body was finally taken to Sabujbag’s Bardeshwari kali temple and crematorium where his cremation took place, followed by the ritual in the afternoon, informed former national footballer Abdul Gaffar who present at the ceremony alongside friends, family members and people of Badal’s locality.
