Afif Hossain Dhrubo’s 98 backed by a superlative effort from the bowlers propelled Najmul XI to their second win as they defeated Mahmudullah XI by 131 runs in the BCB President’s Cup at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Saturday.
Najmul XI, asked to bat first, were shaken when opener Soumya Sarkar and Najmul Hossain Shanto, batting at No 3, departed with just 23 runs on the board inside six overs.
Parvez Hossain Emon was then dismissed for 19 before Afif took charge along with Mushfiqur Rahim (52 off 92 balls) to rebuild the innings.

The left-handed batsman was unfortunate to miss out on a well deserved hundred following confusion in running between the wicket with Mushfiq.
Afif’s dismissal broke the 147-run fourth-wicket stand with Mushfiq as Irfan Sukkur added an unbeaten 31-ball 48 to the tally to guide Najmul XI to 264 for the loss of eight wickets in their stipulated 50 overs.
Right-arm pacer Rubel Hossain picked up three wickets for 53 runs while Ebadat Hossain bagged two for 60 in his quota of 10 overs for Mahmudullah XI.
Later, leg-spinner Rishad Ahmed, Nasum Ahmed and medium pacer Abu Jayed Rahi shared eight wickets between themselves to restrict Mahmudullah XI to 133 inside 33 overs.
Liton Das got the chase off to a smooth start with his 27 off as many balls but following his departure the chase crumbled.
Experienced campaigner Mominul Haque could add only 13 off 32 deliveries to the board, while captain Mahmudullah scored only 11 in 10 balls.
Sabbir Rahman did not make the opportunity to play a long innings count, falling cheaply after scoring 10 off 17 balls.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan established some fight with an unbeaten 28 but the effort was not enough as the innings folded with dismissal of wickets at the other end of the crease.
