The inauguration ceremony of the Joytu Sheikh Hasina International Online Chess Tournament 2020, organized to mark the 73rd birthday celebration of Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, was held Thursday at Canadian University, Bangladesh.
Dr. Benazir Ahmed, president of Bangladesh Chess Federation and South Asian Chess Federation, inaugurated the event as the chief guest.
The first, second and third round games were held after the inauguration ceremony at online chess platform www.chess.com.
A total of 74 players, including 17 Grandmasters, from 14 countries are participating in the event, with 47 from host Bangladesh.
The event is being held in accordance with the 9-round Swiss-League system.
Six players shared the lead in the points table with maximum three points each after day one, while half a dozen players jointly occupy second place with 2.5 points each.
Prize money of $6,000 will be given to the winners.
