Major General Ataul Hakim Sarwar Hasan has become the new president of Bangladesh Shooting Sport Federation, replacing Nazimuddin Chowdhury, while a 25-member ad-hoc committee was also announced.
The new committee was formed in accordance with Article 21 of National Sports Council Act 2018, informed a notice from National Sports Council, that was circulated Sunday.
“It came to our attention that the activities of the shooting federation were not on the right track due to some officials at the top level. A three-member investigation committee was formed to look after the matter, and the evidence was found after they had submitted reports,” said NSC director Masud Karim Monday.
It was learnt that the deteriorated relationship between former president Nazimuddin Chowdhury and general secretary Intekhabul Hamid led the NSC to begin inquiry.
Intekhabul retained his post.
The tenure of the former executive committee was scheduled to expire in December.
The NSC instructed the new ad-hoc committee to hold the election as soon as possible.
Ataul, vice-chancellor of Bangladesh University of Professionals, made a courtesy visit to State Minister for Youth and Sports Jahid Ahsan Russel at the secretariat Monday.
The ad-hoc committee has Ishtiaq Ahmed Bablu as senior vice-president, Anwar Karim, Chowdhury Nafis Sharafat and Hasanul Abedin as vice-presidents, Lt. Col. Mohammad Ali Sohel (retd.) and Khaled Haider Khan as deputy secretary general and Meer Daulat Hasan as treasurer, along with 16 other members.
