Bangladesh cricketers underwent their second phase of Covid-19 testing Friday ahead of the scheduled tour of Sri Lanka.

Players who are currently residing in Dhaka gave their samples for Covid-19, while those who are living outside the capital will give the test Saturday.

The first phase of Covid-19 testing was done on September 8, following which it was revealed that opener Saif Hasan had tested positive.

The Tigers’ tour of Sri Lanka, comprising three Test matches, part of the World Test Championship, is still uncertain.

Initially, Sri Lanka Cricket had informed that the visiting team’s players and officials will have to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine period in accordance with guidelines set by the Health Ministry.

Later, Bangladesh Cricket Board criticized Sri Lanka’s terms and conditions for the tour.

Following BCB’s stance, SLC immediately took initiatives in a series of meetings with the concerned authorities of the Sri Lankan government.

It was learnt that SLC was mulling moving from its initial stance regarding the mandatory 14-day quarantine period and rather impose a week-long isolation for the touring side.

Bangladesh is likely to be allowed to carry between 35 to 41 members, which SLC had initially asked to keep within 30.

As per initial plans, Bangladesh High Performance team were also scheduled to travel with the national side, meaning around 60 players and officials were in the travelling party to Sri Lanka for the month-long series.

Although Sri Lanka has not confirmed and finalized the tour’s terms and condition as of Friday, Bangladesh is taking necessary preparation as per schedule, in the event the tour does go ahead.

Bangladesh are scheduled to fly to the island nation on September 27 if everything goes according to plan and the two boards agree on their terms.

The first Test will start in Kandy on October 23, followed by the second from October 31 at the same venue.

The third and final Test will be played in Colombo.
