Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recently donated Tk10 crores to Bangabandhu Krirasebi Kalyan Foundation, which was formed by the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, for the purpose of welfare of struggling athletes and sports organizers.
Jahid Ahsan Russel, the state minister for youth and sports, informed this as the chief guest at an event organized at Gazipur DC Office Thursday, stated a press release from the sports ministry.
A total of 84 poor athletes of Gazipur district were handed Tk24,000 (Tk2,000 monthly) each during the event by BKKF.
The state minister claimed that this is the first time monthly allowance for low-earning athletes has ever been introduced, from the running fiscal/financial year.
As many as 1,150 sportspersons will get the allowance in 2020 from the BKKF fund.
Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain Molla, secretary of BKKF was present as the special guest of the event presided by Gazipur district commissioner Mohammad Tarikul Islam.
