Bangladesh Football Federation decided to host the national team’s three remaining home matches in the World Cup and Asian Cup joint qualifiers in Sylhet, scheduled for October and November this year.

Bangladesh resume their qualifying campaign against Afghanistan on October 8 before facing 2022 World Cup host Qatar away on October 13.

The men in red and green conclude the group stage hosting India on November 12 and Oman on November 17.

The home tie against Afghanistan, previously scheduled for March 26, was earlier slated to be held at Sylhet District Stadium.

BFF vice-president Kazi Nabil Ahmed informed Saturday that they will host the last two home games in Sylhet too.

“Bangladesh has to play two matches in October and two in November. We decided to host all three home matches in Sylhet,” said Nabil, who also happens to be national team committee chairman.

Abu Nayeem Shohag, BFF general secretary, said the renovation work at Sylhet Stadium has already started and that the venue will be prepared in time for the crucial matches.

He affirmed that BFF will follow the guidelines and protocols sent by the Asian Football Confederation on July 31 regarding hosting international games during pandemic days.
