Abahani Limited, Dhaka will recall their founder-president Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on his 71st birth anniversary through virtual remembrance conference Wednesday.
The one-and-a-half hour long remembrance conference will be live on the facebook pages of Dhaka Tribune, Bangla Tribune, Independent TV and ULAB, starting at 5pm.
Sheikh Kamal, considered one of the pioneers of modern football in Bangladesh, founded one of the country’s most successful clubs as Abahani Krira Chakra in 1972.
The friends, former colleagues and directors of Abahani will join the live video conference to cherish the memory of Sheikh Kamal.
Salman F Rahman, the chairman of the club, Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Industries Minister and a friend of Sheikh Kamal, Harunur Rashid, founding general secretary, Anjan Chowdhury, director, Nasrul Hamid, director, Nazmul Hasan, director, Shahriar Alam, director, Kazi Nabil Ahmed, director-in-charge, and Belayet Hossain Babu, president of Abahani Samorthok Gosthi, will speak on the occasion.
Regarding the arrangement, Nabil said to Bangla Tribune, "Like we do every year, this year also we have arranged different programs to commemorate the 71st birth anniversary of Abahani founder Sheikh Kamal. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, our club president Salman F Rahman came to the decision of arranging this year's discussion program in webinar. There, the club directors and guests will speak on the occasion.
"Day-long Quran recitation, milad and food distribution among the poor will also take place. Wreaths will also be placed at his mural portrait at the club premises in Dhanmondi."
Sheikh Kamal, one of the prominent organizers of the Liberation War and also a noted cultural personality, was born at Tungipara village in Gopalganj on August 5, 1949.
The directors, officials and players of Abahani will pay tribute to the founder-president by placing wreaths at his mural portrait at the club premises in Dhanmondi in the first hour of Wednesday.
