BCB will extend Naveed's contract till 2023, while Stonier's deal has been renewed till 2022
Bangladesh Cricket Board is all set to extend the contract with the national U-19 head coach Naveed Nawaz.
BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury confirmed the board’s decision to the media Wednesday.
Alongside Naveed, the board will also extend the contract with Bangladesh U-19 strength and conditioning coach Richard Stonier.
BCB will extend Naveed's contract till 2023, while Stonier's deal has been renewed till 2022.
“The coaching staffs [of the U-19 team] played a major role in their success. After we became the U-19 World Cup champion, the board decided to keep the coaching staffs for another term,” said Nizamuddin to the media.
“Head coach Naveed’s contract has been extended for three years, while Stonier's deal runs for two more years," the BCB high-up added.
According to Nizamuddin, BCB had come to the decision to renew the contracts following Bangladesh U-19 team’s historic U-19 World Cup win this year, but was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Under the guidance of former Sri Lankan cricketer Naveed, Bangladesh U-19 rocked the cricket world as they finished as champion, defeating India in the U-19 World Cup final at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom in February this year.
