Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mustafizur Rahman and at least a couple more Bangladesh cricketers are likely to be involved
The biggest of names from world cricket including Virat Kohli, Rashid Khan, Lasith Malinga, Kieron Pollard, Chris Gayle, Alex Hales and Faf du Plessis, among others, are set to feature in the two-match T20I series between Asia XI and World XI in Dhaka in March.
Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan revealed the names Tuesday for the series that has been organized to mark the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Both the matches will be held at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on March 21 and 22.
“We [BCB] have received four names from India. Though we are yet to sign a contract with them, we are in touch with Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, Shikhar Dhawan and Mohammad Shami. Kohli and KL Rahul are likely to play at least one game, but we are yet to finalize that,” said Nazmul to the media.
“From Afghanistan we spoke to Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid last (Monday) night, Sandeep Lamichhane from Nepal, along with Malinga and Thisara Perera from Sri Lanka,” he added.
Nazmul informed that Bangladesh players are in the running to play for Asia XI.
Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mustafizur Rahman and at least a couple more Bangladesh cricketers are likely to be involved.
“Position basically matters. Not like our very best player will play, because we might see that in that position there is a better player who can play. It’s tough to say right now about it, after agreement we can say about it briefly,” said Nazmul.
Nazmul insisted that World XI will feature three or four players from South Africa, like Du Plessis, the same amount from the West Indies like Gayle and others, and among others, Jonny Bairstow from England.
Pakistani cricketers will not be available for the series as they will be involved with the Pakistan Super League T20.
