Gambian duo Pa Omar Jobe and Solomon Kanform scored one each with former national winger Zahid Hossain leaving key roles for both goals as Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited bagged their first win in the Bangladesh Premier League 2020, beating struggling Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra 2-1 at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj Tuesday.

It was Zahid’s delicious cross from the right side that curved over a couple of defenders to meet Omar inside the six-yard box.

The Gambian striker’s initial header rebounded off the crossbar before he poked home to give Sheikh Jamal the deserved lead before the break.

The All Reds cancelled the lead two minutes into the second half as Cameroonian forward Paul Emile, who played for Arambagh Krira Sangha last season, drifted past his markers to receive a glorious through pass from midfielder Mohammed Sohel before slotting past the onrushing goalkeeper from the top of the box.

The Yellow Submarine continued to dominate and clinched the winner in the 73rd minute, thanks to Zahid, who snatched away possession, before Solomon headed home a long cross from right-back Mozammel Hossain Nira.

Omar and Solomon got two good chances from Zahid’s precise free-kicks in the seventh and 84th minute respectively, but the former’s header hit the woodwork while the latter headed inches over from vantage point.

It was Muktijoddha’s opening match in the league as the club have been struggling with funds since being locked up during the casino crackdown in Dhaka less than six months ago.

“Zahid is still dangerous with his free-kicks and crosses. I was surprised. They deserved the win while our players were not motivated enough,” Muktis coach Abdul Kayum Sentu praised Zahid, who came off the bench in the 73rd minute during the 2-0 defeat in the league opener against Chittagong Abahani Limited last week.
