Off-spinner Nayeem Hasan was the day’s leading wicket-taker with eight scalps for East against North
A total of 24 wickets fell on the first day of round three of the Bangladesh Cricket League, with North Zone’s Mushfiqur Rahim and Central Zone’s Marshall Ayub scoring centuries to prop up their sides in the first innings of their respective matches.
Mushfiq scored a quick-fire 140 off 157 deliveries to take North to 272 all out against East Zone, while Marshall scored a more measured 116 off 186 balls to take Central to 235 all out against South Zone.
Off-spinner Nayeem Hasan was the day’s leading wicket-taker with eight scalps for East against North.
The North openers had put 36 runs on the board when Junaid Siddique became the first batsman to be dismissed, after scoring just eight off 36 deliveries.
The man to break the partnership was none other than off-spinner Nayeem, with Nasir Hossain taking the catch.
Nayeem did not have to wait too long to pick up his second wicket, sending other North opener Rony Talukdar back to the pavilion bowled out on the last ball of his very next over.

Rony had scored a gritty 24 off 64 balls.
North No 3 batsman Tanbir Hayder spent 20 balls at the crease but had only managed four runs when he became Nayeem’s third victim, Nasir once again taking the catch to leave North reeling on 46/3.
Subsequently, Mushfiq joined North captain Naeem Islam at the crease and the pair attempted to steady the ship.
However, after Naeem (31 off 64 balls) was dismissed by Nayeem, Mushfiq adopted a more aggressive approach in an attempt to score as many runs as possible before his team were bowled out.
When Mushfiq was finally dismissed, bowled out by pacer Hasan Mahmud, he had scored 140 runs and was the side’s second to last batsman.
At the beginning of the East innings, North spinners Sanjamul Islam and Sanjit Saha each picked up a wicket to leave East on 3/2 at stumps. Pinak Ghosh (three) and Mohammad Ashraful (nought) were the batsmen dismissed.
