Cumilla Warriors were one of the teams to have been single-handedly operated by Bangladesh Cricket Board in the BBPL.

The Warriors initially offered a lot of promise in their opening match as Sri Lankan Dasun Shanaka and English batsman Dawid Malan wreaked havoc to lead their side to a huge 105-run victory over Rangpur Rangers.

However, as it happened, following four straight defeats, Cumilla were on the backfoot in the middle stage of the competition.

The Warriors were almost out of contention for a playoff berth but then took everyone by surprise, winning three consecutive games in the business phase of the tournament, including one in the Super Over against Sylhet Thunder.

Cumilla, still with their heads slightly above water, then had the daunting task of winning against a strong Khulna Tigers, but failed.

They also lost their last league stage game and finished with five wins in 12 attempts.

With 444 runs in 11 innings including a stupendous century, Malan was the backbone of Cumilla’s batting, with the others chipping in on occasions.

The renowned locals in the shape of Soumya Sarkar and Sabbir Rahman were below-par for the most parts of the tournament.

Left-handed batsman Soumya played well sporadically, totaling 331 runs in 12 innings with two half-centuries.

With the ball, Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman topped the chart for his side with 15 wickets in 12 innings.
