Soma of Abahani Limited defeated Bangladesh Army’s Nowrin by 4-2 sets in the final at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium in Paltan
Sonam Sultana Soma clinched the title of the Federation Cup (Ranking) Table Tennis Tournament for the third consecutive time in the women’s singles event Tuesday, while Khayer Hamza Sajib stunned top-ranked Manash Chowdhury to win his maiden crown.
Soma of Abahani Limited defeated Bangladesh Army’s Nowrin Sultana Mahi by 4-2 sets in the final at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium in Paltan.
She won the sets by 5-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-7, 11-5 and 11-6 points.
Sajib, who is ranked outside the top 10, had to toil hard to beat his Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra teammate and the country’s top player Manash by 4-3 sets after losing the first two by 9-11, 3-11 points.
He won the next three sets by 11-9, 12-10, 11-9.
The final two sets ended 7-11 and 12-10 points in Sajib’s favor.
