Opener Tamim Iqbal has surpassed Mushfiqur Rahim to become the most prolific scorer in Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 history, and the first to join the 2,000 BPL-run club.
Left-handed batsman Tamim registered his 18th BPL half-century in the match against Sylhet Thunder Tuesday, taking him to 2,029 runs in 63 BPL innings.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has 1,937 runs in 72 innings in second place.
Tamim reclaimed the top spot on the all-time BPL top scorer chart just two days after Mushfiq had taken it from him.
The wicketkeeper-batsman had started the Bangabandhu BPL season well with Khulna Tigers, but only managed 13 runs in his last two innings as the Tigers conceded their first losses.
Tamim had returned to action for Dhaka Platoon in the previous game against Cumilla Warriors, recovering from severe illness to score 34 runs.
Tuesday, the southpaw guided his side Dhaka with an unbeaten 49-ball 60, including five boundaries and two over-boundaries, in a successful chase of 175 runs against Sylhet.
Tamim reached the 2,000 run milestone with an average of 36.89.
Mushfiq at No 2 has an average of 33.98.
Mahmudullah (1,695), Imrul Kayes (1,567) and Shakib al Hasan (1,483) are in Nos 3, 4 and 5 in the all-time top scorer chart, respectively.
