Saif held by Rahmatganj

Things could have been worse for Saif Sporting Club had goalkeeper Pappu Hossain not produced three brilliant saves in both halves

Update : 19 Dec 2019, 09:58 PM

Rahmatganj MFS made a positive start in the Federation Cup as they held Saif Sporting Club to a goalless draw in the opening Group C match at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka Thursday.

The Old Dhaka outfit, who conceded similar 3-1 defeats in both their group stage matches of the last edition, could not have expected better against Saif Sporting, who won both their group phase games by big margin last year.

Things could have been worse for Saif had goalkeeper Pappu Hossain not produced three brilliant saves in both halves.

He denied Suhel Mia in the 19th minute before making a diving save to deny Gambian forward Momodou Bah’s volley three minutes before the end of stipulated time.

Saif’s Maldivian coach Mohamed Nizam was not happy with the draw.

“We couldn’t play well and this is not a good result in the first match,” Rahmatganj coach Syed Golam Jilani said before adding, “We are happy with the draw but we could have won the game and scored three goals.”
