The special edition of the BPL, organized to mark the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will commence with a grand opening ceremony at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Sunday

Around 5,000 tickets will be available for the general public in the opening ceremony of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20.

The special edition of the BPL, organized to mark the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will commence with a grand opening ceremony at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Sunday.

The BPL governing council has so far confirmed the appearance of Bollywood stars Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif in the ceremony, alongside local stars James and Momtaz, with several other names making the news that include singer Sonu Nigam, Arjit Singh and Kailash Kher, among others.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to attend the ceremony.

Tickets for the grand opening of BBPL T20 will however, be limited due to the setup of the stage.

Only around 8,000 seats can be allocated in total, of which around 5,000 will be put up for sale for the general public.

“It will be tough for us to have more than 8,000 tickets [for the opening ceremony]. Owing to the position of the stage and other regulations, we can have limited part of the stand in use and also only around a thousand inside the field. This is our assessment so far. The rest they [BPL GC] will discuss and decide,” Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan told the media in Mirpur Tuesday.

“The program has been finalized. They [BPL GC] will sit [Wednesday] and possibly have an official press conference. The issue is we will have to give many free tickets, to the councilors, clubs etc. But the quantity will not be the same as it happens during a game. There is a very limited sitting arrangement but huge demand. Then there are organizations that we are affiliated with, we need to give them tickets too. We have thought we can have around 5000 tickets on sale for general public. Price for the tickets will be informed [Wednesday],” he added.

Demand for the BBPL T20 opening ceremony tickets will be rocket high, along with the price too.

It is understood that the most expensive tickets are valued at around Tk10,000, which BCB will start selling two days before the event.

The other category tickets will be sold at Tk5,000 and Tk1,000.

With participation of seven teams, the seventh edition of the BPL is set to start next Wednesday.
