The Tigers folded for just 213 in their second innings, and survived just 69.2 overs, in what was their first Test of the newly introduced World Test Championship
Bangladesh interim Test captain Mominul Haque stated the obvious as he said they should have batted with more patience after losing the first of two Test matches against India by an innings and 130 runs at Holkar Cricket Stadium Saturday.
The Tigers folded for just 213 in their second innings, and survived just 69.2 overs, in what was their first Test of the newly introduced World Test Championship.
Only Mushfiqur Rahim scored a half-century for the Tigers in the two innings, and Mominul informed that their batsmen lacked proper planning in the middle.
“I think our batting approach was not proper in this game. We have to understand the quality of opposition bowling, and should have shown more patience while batting. I think India bowlers gave a few lose balls. Se we had to be patient out there, particularly for the batsmen who are batting in the top-order,” Mominul said during the post-match press conference.
“We did not play as a team. We did not make big partnerships. Mushfiq bhai batted well in both innings. Liton [Das] also played well but as I said, we weren’t able to perform as a team, and it was not a good team performance,” he added.

Bangladesh’s top-order, particularly their opening pair, failed in each innings and both the openers scored six apiece in two innings.
Mominul said India possess a quality bowling attack and if the openers had built a partnership then it would have been easier for the middle-order batsmen.
“We played against a quality bowling side, they are probably the No 1 bowling unit in the world at the moment. If our openers had given us a partnership until 15-20 overs then it would have been easy for the remaining batsmen,” said the diminutive batsman.
Bangladesh will play quite a few Tests in the coming years under the WTC banner and the skipper believes they need to work hard to become a better team in the longest format.
“Playing Tests away for home is always challenging for us. We have not played well in away games. We need to perform well in away series. For that we have to be mentally more strong and cope with more pressure,” he concluded.
