Shakib al Hasan was banned after accepting three charges of breaching the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Code of failing to disclose to the concerned authority in full details of any approaches or invitations he had received to engage in corrupt conduct

Bangladesh football team captain Jamal Bhuiyan felt sorry for Shakib al Hasan after the ace Tigers all-rounder was handed a two-year ban, with one year of that suspended, from the International Cricket Council Tuesday.

“I feel sorry for Shakib. Many people follow cricket just because of Shakib. He is a great leader - a true leader. Everybody loves him. If I watch cricket, it’s only because of Shakib but if he didn’t follow the rules, he has to accept this penalty,” said Jamal during the pre-final press conference ahead of the final of the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup, where he is captaining Chittagong Abahani Limited as a loanee.

Shakib was banned after accepting three charges of breaching the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Code of failing to disclose to the concerned authority in full details of any approaches or invitations he had received to engage in corrupt conduct.

Just after the verdict was published, social media erupted, mainly in anger, and the facebook page titled Jamal Bhuyan stated: “It's harsh to hear world's number 1 all-rounder getting banned from cricket for atleast one year. Stay strong Shakib al Hasan.”

However, when asked about it in the presser, Jamal said, “I didn’t post this on facebook but my admin did (laughs).”
