Tigers head coach Russell Domingo: Sometimes, change is the best thing

Bangladesh are ready to face the day-night Test match challenge against India in second and final Test of their upcoming series, confirmed Tigers head coach Russell Domingo.

The second Test between visiting Bangladesh and India will be played at the historical Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

“About the pink-ball Test, as the coach and all the other senior players, we think that it’s a great opportunity. I don’t think India have played a pink-ball Test before. We haven’t played a pink-ball Test. It’s a massive occasion at the Eden Gardens. It will be a new experience for both the teams. So we are very excited about it,” said Domingo.

Domingo believes that the contest will be an equally daunting one for India since they are yet to play a Test with the pink ball.

He said, “It will be a great occasion under lights against one of the best teams in the world - probably the best team in the world. So we are really looking forward to the challenge. There are some challenges because we won’t get a lot of time to prepare with the pink-ball. But it is the same for India. I don’t think they have played a day-night Test match, may be one (none). So it will be the same for both teams - not a lot of preparation time but an exciting event. Because of the pink-ball, it may help both the teams a little and we are excited about the opportunity.”

The South African knows the quality Bangladesh are up against, but the fact that India have not played a Test under lights might also make the affair an interesting one, albeit challenging.

Domingo said, “We know India (are) a very good Test team. We know that they are probably the No 1 Test team in the world. But with the uncertainty of playing a pink-ball Test, both teams don’t know what to expect (and that) could work in our advantage. And the way the game is going, we have to try new things at certain times. So we are excited about it. We know that it will be a big challenge. We haven’t played much of it. But sometimes, change is the best thing.

“I have spoken to the players. For sure, there have been some concerns. Some guys said it will be just a few days’ preparations. There is only two days between the first and second Test. In my time with South Africa, we played a pink-ball Test in Adelaide with Australia. We had a warm-up game before. We had a few sessions. So there will be less time to start (practicing). Hopefully, it may work as an advantage for us,” he added.
