After a tumultuous week in the country’s cricket, the third round matches of the National Cricket League’s third round began across four different venues Saturday.

However, no toss occurred in two of the matches due to inclement weather as players shone with bat and ball in the other two.

Anamul Haque Bijoy’s century for Khulna against Dhaka was the highlight of the first day at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox's Bazar while Rangpur’s young leg-spinner Rishad Hossain shone with the ball as he grabbed a five-for against Rajshahi at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium Academy Ground in the coastal city.

Rangpur v Rajshahi

The need for a quality leg-spinner has been glaring and young leggie Rishad is showing some hope after his brilliant performance in the third round.

The 17-year old Rishad, who is playing his third first-class game, was introduced to the attack as the sixth bowler, and got his first scalp when he removed opener Mizanur Rahman to reduce the opponent to 75/3.

Rajshahi captain Farhad Hossain scored the highest 60 but they lost wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bundled out for a low total of 201.

Rishad ended with 5/50, while Sajedul Islam and Sohrawardi Shuvo bagged two each.

In reply, Rangpur lost two wickets and finished the day on 32/2.

Taijul Islam and Delwar Hossain got one wicket each for Rajshahi.

Elsewhere, the tosses at the respective matches did not happen owing to inclement weather at Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra between Barisal and Dhaka Metropolis and at Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi between Chittagong and Sylhet.

21ST NCL, ROUND 3, DAY 1

Rajshahi 201 in 71.4 overs (Farhad 50, Rishad 5/50) lead Rangpur 32/2 in 16 overs (Maruf 19*, Taijul 1/6) by 169 runs
