The Bangladesh Football Federation is uncertain of hosting both the friendlies, mainly due to the huge expenditure that is required, but the country’s football regulatory body is interested to hold at least one match between Argentina and Paraguay

The Argentina national football team are likely to visit Bangladesh for the second time in eight years to play an international friendly against Paraguay at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka on November 18 this year, according to the official Twitter account of the Paraguayan Football Association Tuesday.

The Twitter account also posted the fixture of another Paraguay friendly against Venezuela, scheduled to be held at the same venue, three days before the Argentina game during the November Fifa international break.

The Bangladesh Football Federation is uncertain of hosting both the friendlies, mainly due to the huge expenditure that is required, but the country’s football regulatory body is interested to hold at least one match between Argentina and Paraguay.

“BFF is interested to host at least one of the two international friendlies but it is not certain whether we can arrange both. Nothing is confirmed yet,” said BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag Tuesday.

“[Tuesday] was a government holiday so we could not hold talks with the respective authorities. We are still working on it. It may take around 10 days to give an official statement regarding this,” he added.

The final decision depends on the funding and security assurance from sponsors and the government.

While replying to a query, Shohag also said that they will try to include the friendlies as a part of the celebration of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary next year.

Shohag also informed that talks about hosting the two friendlies began some 16-17 days ago through an European agency named RightAgent4You Limited.

An Argentine national daily sports newspaper named Ole also carried out the news on Lionel Messi returning from his three-month suspension with the friendly against Brazil on November 15 in Saudi Arabia followed by the game against Paraguay in Dhaka.

But it didn’t confirm whether Messi will accompany the La Albiceleste in Bangladesh.

Argentina, led by Messi, played against Nigeria at a jam-packed BNS on September 6, 2011 where the Albiceleste won 3-1.

BFF had to bear the cost of around Tk35 crores to host the game.
