Kool-BSJA Media Cup 2019: DT secure semi-final berth

Dhaka Tribune will face Daily Star to secure a spot in the final Saturday while in the other semi-final, heavyweights Channel i will fight against Samakal to ensure a final berth

Reigning champions Dhaka Tribune, Daily Star, Channel i and Samakal have moved onto the semis at the ongoing Kool-BSJA Media Cup 2019 football tournament after emerging victorious in their respective games Friday.

Dhaka Tribune will face Daily Star to secure a spot in the final Saturday while in the other semi-final, heavyweights Channel i will fight against Samakal to ensure a final berth.

Yesterday’s first quarter-final saw Daily Star beat Bangladesh Protidin by three goals to nil. 

The English daily’s Mehedi was adjudged as player of the match for his brace while Tarek added to the scoreline.

The second quarter-final saw Channel i progress to the last four after defeating high-flying Jaago News 4-1 with the former’s Abdullah al Noufel receiving the player of the match award for his exploits.

Dhaka Tribune faced a stern Bangla Vision side that scored first against the run of play in the third quarter-final encounter. 

However, DT captain Fazley Rabbi Moon equalized after some brilliant link-up play to take the match to penalties. 

It was all DT at the shoot-out as they beat Bangla Vision convincingly 4-1.

Moon received the player of the match accolade for his all-round performance.

The final match of the day saw yet another penalty shootout after the game between Boishakhi TV and Samakal ended in a 2-2 stalemate. 

The tiebreaker ended with Samakal advancing to the semi-final stage with Ariful receiving the player of the match title.

Former national team players Imtiaz Sultan Jony, Aminul Haque and Biplob Bhattacharjee were present at the venue along with multiple dignitaries of the Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association.

Both the semis and the final will be held Saturday at the BFF artificial turf in Motijheel.
