Bangladesh's Shakib al Hasan bowls during day three of their lone Test against Afghanistan in Chittagong Saturday Dhaka Tribune/Md Manik from Chittagong

Host Bangladesh however, lost track of the momentum as the game progressed and Afghanistan extended their already big lead

Bangladesh were given a scintillating start by left-arm spinner Shakib al Hasan, who removed two Afghanistan batsmen in the first over when the visiting side went out to bat in the second innings.

The Tigers were 137 runs behind in the first innings following a batting debacle and needed a dominating start over the opposition when they went out to bowl for the second time in the game.

Shakib was spot on, delivering the team’s much-needed first wicket, dismissing opener Ihsanullah from an LBW in the third ball of the over.

In the next delivery, Shakib accounted for the wicket of first innings centurion Rahmat Shah, also for a duck.

Host Bangladesh however, lost track of the momentum as the game progressed and Afghanistan extended their already big lead.

At stumps on day three, Afghanistan are 374 ahead with two wickets in hand.

Given the situation, Afghanistan are surely scenting a probable maiden win against a better-ranked Test-playing nation.
