The teams have already started signing players
The Bangladesh Premier League is returning this December with its seventh edition.
The teams have already started signing players.
Rangpur Riders and Comilla Victorians have already declared Shakib al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim respectively as their icon players.
However, signing icon players without the permission BPL governing council has stirred a controversy among cricket analysts and fans.
Bangladesh Cricket Board’s senior vice-chairman Mahbub Anam said the BPL GC will come to a decision regarding the matter in a urgent meeting tomorrow.
After playing in Dhaka Dynamites for three consecutive seasons, Shakib has been registered by Rangpur for this season.
After signing the contract Wednesday, he said, “I have been captain before, and I know everyone in the team. So I do not think it will be a problem.”

Shakib’s decision to change team stunned the Dhaka officials.
BPL GC has not yet declared the names of the icon cricketers.
They have not yet asked the franchises for the lists of retained players.
Dhaka CEO Obayed Nizam voiced his surprise and said, “Only BCB can tell what will happen now. They have not given us the retain forms yet. If they did, we could have retained our players. Now everyone seems to be free to leave.”
Mahbub briefed the press regarding this issue.
He said, “Shakib’s transfer from Dhaka to Rangpur created two problems. Rangpur now have two icons, while Dhaka do not have any. We will discuss the matter with the franchises and the board directors and come to a decision within 48 hours. Besides, a decision will be made on Chittagong Vikings’ new franchise.”
