Int’l Rating Chess begins

FM Iqbal Bin Anwar Dawn, executive director and head of games of sports of Walton Group inaugurated the event as the chief guest BCF

A total of 82 players from Bangladesh and Nepal are participating in the event

The inauguration ceremony of the Walton Air Conditioner International Rating Chess Tournament Seminart 2019, organized by Bangladesh Chess Federation, was held Thursday at the BCF hall room at the second floor of National Sports Council’s old building in Dhaka. 

FM Iqbal Bin Anwar Dawn, executive director and head of games of sports of Walton Group inaugurated the event as the chief guest.

KM Shahidullah, vice president and acting general secretary of BCF presided over the ceremony. 

Gazi Shayiful Tarique, vice president of BCF was present as special guest and chief arbiter of the event, Mohammad Haroon Or Rashid was also present. 

The first round games started immediately after the inauguration ceremony. 

Thirty six players including Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman, International Master Mohammad Minhaz Uddin Ahmed, Fide Master Sheikh Nasir Ahmed, FM Syed Mahfuzur Rahman, FM Mehdi Hasan Parag, Women’s IM Rani Hamid, Candidate Master Subrota Biswas, CM SM Sharon, CM Mohammad Sharif Hossain and Women’s FM Sharmin Sultana Shirin won their first round games. 

Zarin Tasnim drew with CM Sohel Chowdhury. 

A total of 82 players from Bangladesh and Nepal are participating in the event. 

The five-day event is being held in accordance with the Swiss League system. 

Following rest days Friday and Saturday, the event will resume Sunday morning.
