Action from the Ascent Cup in Dhaka Sunday

Fans turned up, cheering for their respective teams and players were high on spirit ready to take on the opponents

Despite being a weekday, Day 4 of the 14th Ascent Football Cup was no short of excitement. Fans turned up, cheering for their respective teams and players were high on spirit ready to take on the opponents.

It was a Sunday Funday for Dhaka Tribune as they demolished Lal Teer with a barrage of goals. Dhaka Tribune's captain Moon opened the floodgate, scoring a hat-trick. However, the scoreline of 7-1 doesn't reflect the fight Lal Teer put on against the tournament stalwart.

They showed a lot of heart and passion and played with the spirit of the game. It was just not meant to be for Lal Teer. Meanwhile, Dhaka Tribune are through to the main cup courtesy of better goal difference.

It was business as usual for Flora as they netted two goals against a very attacking Bay side. Both teams' goalkeepers were thoroughly tested.

Flora's strong defense ensured they kept a clean sheet. However, it is worth mentioning that Bay were an unlucky side to have had three of their shots hit the crossbar.

For a weekday 7pm game you would think the goals scored would be slightly less given the players were earlier working hard. However, they played harder as Asutex and Concord were at each other's throats in the first half of the game.

The first half saw Asutex taking the lead inside three minutes and soon after adding one more in the counter-attack, while Concord got unlucky with two good saves from Asutex keeper and one powerful volley hitting the bar.

Asutex continued their high-intensity attack in the second half and soon it paid dividends as they added in six more goals inside 10 minutes. We hope to see Concord take the positives from the first half and come back better.

Intertek's game plan was very simple. Pass, pass, attack. And it worked to their advantage as they beat Fakhruddin with a 5-1 scoreline with Amin scoring majority of the goals, netting in four.

With one more day of round-robin left, we are expecting Monday to be a cracker.
