BCB untied its knot with Steve Rhodes and released him from the head coach’s post with “mutual consent” just after the World Cup
Bangladesh Cricket Board chief Nazmul Hasan informed that neither former head coach Chandika Hathurusingha has applied yet nor the BCB have approached him for the vacant post of head coach of the Tigers.
Bangladesh ended the 2019 World Cup campaign on a disappointing note as they finished eighth in the 10-team tournament and accumulated seven points in nine games.
As a result BCB untied its knot with Steve Rhodes and released him from the head coach’s post with “mutual consent” just after the World Cup.
Khaled Mahmud, who was the team manager during the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales, has been appointed as interim coach of the Tigers for the ongoing bilateral ODI series in Sri Lanka.
Speculation is rife in cricketing fraternity that BCB is planning to bring back Hathurusingha and some media reports suggest that the Sri Lankan is also keen to return as Tigers’ head coach.

But BCB boss Nazmul said there is no such communication happening yet and that Hathurusingha has not applied for the position and neither the BCB have approached him.
“At the moment he is not in consideration for the head coach. I mean for consideration either he has to apply for the vacant post or we have to approach him. But he has not applied yet and we have not approached him yet. We are open for anybody but he has not applied to us yet,” said Nazmul at a press conference following the BCB board meeting in Mirpur Saturday.
Nazmul also said the BCB has contacted quite a few candidates for the head coach position, including former Zimbabwe player Andy Flower.
He also said the BCB is trying to finalize its selection for the vacant head coach and that it will be disclosed within a few days.
