Ansar participated in 29 tournaments in 2018 winning a total 160 gold, 96 silver and 90 bronze medals
Bangladesh Ansar & VDP has awarded around Tk 45lacs prize money to its 500 athletes who brought achievements in different tournaments at home and abroad in the last year. The grand ceremony titled as ‘Ansar Sports Award 2019’ was held at the Ansar & VDP headquarter in the capital’s Khilgaon area yesterday.
Ansar participated in 29 tournaments in 2018 winning a total 160 gold, 96 silver and 90 bronze medals. They also became champions in 20 national tournaments and finished runners-up in five events.
Top national archer Ruman Shana, who became the second ever Bangladeshi to directly qualify for the Olympics (Tokyo 2020), was also facilitated at the ceremony for being an Ansar athlete and received Tk 2,20,000 as prize money.
“Ansar provided me with more than my demands and everyone here always helped me. My family will be benefitted with the prize money and so that we also can concentrate on our own game.” said Ruman.
The 2016 South Asian Games gold-medalist weightlifter Mabia Akter Shimanta was also awarded in the event along with recently concluded national badminton’s champions in three events, Shapla Akter. Mabia hoped to retain gold medal in this year’s SA Games as well.
Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP, major general Kazi Sharif Kaikobad handed over the prize money as the chief guest. Kaikobad informed that an athletic turf along with swimming pool will be set up in Gazipur’s Shafipur with the expenses of Tk 14crores for the developments of the national athletes.
