With the defeat, the second-string Bangladesh side are behind 2-0 in the five-match series against Afghanistan A

Host Bangladesh A team were humbled once again as the side faced a four-wicket defeat in a nail-biter against Afghanistan A in the second one-dayer in Chittagong’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium Sunday.

With the defeat, the second-string Bangladesh side are behind 2-0 in the five-match series against Afghanistan A.

Bangladesh A were asked to bat first and despite the top-order chipping in finished with 278 runs on the board.

The openers Imrul Kayes and Anamul Haque (26) got off to a decent start, posting 56 but the most runs had come from the third-wicket stand.

Following Imrul’s departure for 40, Mohammad Mithun was joined with young batsman Mohammad Naim as the duo registered 97.

Afghanistan A right-arm pacer Karim Janat removed Naim for 49 to break the partnership and then Mithun for 85 off 94.

The wicketkeeper-batsman had struck five boundaries and four over-boundaries.

Bangladesh failed to capitalize in the last 10 overs of the innings.

In spite of having six wickets in hand, the home side could add only 60 runs to the board as Sabbir Rahman added 36 off 38.

Defending the target, Bangladesh got an early breakthrough as right-arm pacer Shafiul Islam broke the opening stand for just 28 runs.

However, the other opener Ibrahim Zadran held strong at one side of the crease to add 127 to the tally with seven fours and as many sixes.

When Shafiul removed Ibrahim in the 47th over, the tourist needed 35 off 23 with four wickets in hand.

But Afghanistan A did not lose the nerve as Sharafuddin Ashraf and Fazal Niazai took the side shore in just 18 balls.
