Bangladesh is placed in the same group (E) as India, Afghanistan, Oman and Qatar during the draw for the second round of the AFC preliminary competition and qualifiers for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

The Men in Red and Green was put on the last and 5th pot based on Fifa rankings before the draw and they were drawn with Afghanistan from pot 4 in Group E, neighbours India from pot 3, Oman from pot 2 and next Fifa World Cup hosts Qatar from pot 1 and subsequently avoided the opponents like Japan, Australia and South Korea.
The 40 member associations of AFC was drawn into eight groups of five teams and compete in a double round-robin format.
The group matches will be held from 5 September, 2019 to 9 June, 2020.
Earlier during the 2018 Russia World Cup qualifiers, Bangladesh was drawn in a comparatively more difficult group comprising Australia, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan and they could manage only one draw against seven defeats in eight matches.
