Malik announces retirement from ODIs

Shoaib Malik has already retired from Tests and is now solely focusing on his T20I career ahead of the next World T20I next year

Veteran Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik announced his retirement from ODIs after their World Cup match against Bangladesh at Lord’s in London Friday.

Pakistan won the match by 94 runs but both teams got eliminated from the tournament.

“I am announcing retirement from ODIs. It is sad for me but I am satisfied with my ODI career. I would like to thank everyone who supported me in these 20 years of international cricket. I also thank all the players with whom I have shared dressing rooms, all my coaches, my friends, family and most importantly, my fans. Thank you all,” said Malik during the post-match press conference at Lord’s Friday.

Malik earlier announced that it will be his last World Cup in the 50-over format.

He played three matches for Pakistan in the 2019 World Cup and scored only eight runs.    

Malik made his ODI debut in October, 1999 and played 287 ODIs, scoring 7,534 runs. 

Malik has already retired from Tests and is now solely focusing on his T20I career ahead of the next World T20I next year.
