After they settled down at the middle, Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim started to play their shots and boundaries were coming quite regularly after 40 overs
The Tigers were facing a daunting task from the beginning as they were chasing 382 runs to win against defending champion Australia in their World Cup game at Trent Bridge.
The task became more difficult as the on-song Soumya Sarkar lost his wicket early and in-form Shakib al Hasan departed for 41.
Later, Bangladesh lost the wickets of Tamim Iqbal (62) and Liton Das (20) within 30 overs, and 200 were still required at that time.
But from that point, No 4 batsman Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah tried to rebuild the innings and formed a 127-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
After they settled down at the middle, Mahmudullah and Mushfiq started to play their shots and boundaries were coming quite regularly after 40 overs.
@BCBtigers were up against a tough task against @CricketAus when they came out to chase 382 runs in their group stage match of the 2109 @cricketworldcup at Trent Bridge in Nottingham Thursday.https://t.co/ii8FfnAbec#BCBTIGERS #BCB #TIGERS #CRICKET #BANGLADESH #BANGLADESHCRICKET— Dhaka Tribune Sports (@Sport_DT) June 20, 2019
After the 40-over mark, the Tigers required 137 to win in 60 deliveries, which looked possible the way these two were batting.
But their hopes took a shot when Mahmudullah got out in the third ball of the 46th over after scoring 69 off 50 deliveries.
In the next ball, Sabbir Rahman played on and that was the end of the Tigers’ chase.
Mushfiq was unbeaten on 102 off 97 balls with nine fours and one six.
Good batting effort from the Mushfiq-Mahmudullah stand.
