Shakib al Hasan played a magnificent unbeaten innings of 124 runs off just 99 deliveries with 16 boundaries, and helped seal the win, along with Liton Kumar Das, as the duo put on 189 runs for the unbeaten fourth wicket stand in pursuit of 322 against the West Indies at Somerset County Ground in Taunton Monday

In-form Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan is determined to maintain his good form with the bat and contribute more in the remaining four group stage matches as the Tigers bid to qualify for the World Cup semi-final.

Shakib played a magnificent unbeaten innings of 124 runs off just 99 deliveries with 16 boundaries, and helped seal the win, along with Liton Kumar Das, as the duo put on 189 runs for the unbeaten fourth wicket stand in pursuit of 322 against the West Indies at Somerset County Ground in Taunton Monday.

Shakib informed that before chasing 322, the batsmen in the Tigers camp were confident, and they knew that it was a good bating track.

“At the end of the first innings, in the dressing room no one felt that the chase will be tough. Everyone was comfortable and was chilling. It gave a lot of confidence in the dressing room and belief that we could chase the target,” said Shakib during the post-match press conference Monday.

“Once we started batting, I think the way the openers started their innings, everyone in the dressing room felt good and comfortable and relaxed. That helped us a lot in the dressing room. So at no point of time did we panic. So that was the best part of this chase, I think,” he added.

Shakib has been in terrific form as he is currently the top run-getter in this tournament making 384 runs from four matches at an average of 128.

He has surpassed 50 in each of the innings so far and got past three–figure mark in last two innings.

Not only the runs, he is scoring them with assurance and aggression that was epitomized in the win at a smallish ground in Taunton.

Shakib did not strike a single six but smashed 16 fours, highest in the tournament in an innings, and maintained a strike rate of over 125.

The southpaw is determined to continue this rich vein of form.

“I've been batting well. I don't know if this is the best I have been batting or not, but so far it's going well and fingers crossed, hope it continues. At this moment, yes, I've been contributing well with both ball, bat and with my leadership, and it's been key to our team. I'd love to continue because there are four more games left, and if we have to play it safe, we have to play our best cricket. And everyone needs to contribute and chip in. At this moment, I'm doing well. So I need to make sure that I keep on doing what I've been doing,” said a confident Shakib.

Shakib also praised Liton for his brilliant 94-run innings and said the youngster took the pressure away from him during the chase.

“I knew the wicket was good. And I told Liton that if you can stay steady we can finish the game with three down. After playing the first 10-15 balls, the way he batted, I think it was a treat to watch. I enjoyed his batting from the non-striker’s end. He never put me under pressure during the chase. So that was the best part, I think, in his innings.” Shakib concluded.
