Ace Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan has been ruled out from the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand later this month due to injury.

According to information provided by the BCB, he suffered an injury on his left ring finger while batting in the final of the sixth edition of the BPL T20 in Dhaka's Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Friday evening.

Shakib scored three runs off five balls for Dhaka Dynamites in the final against Comilla Victorians.

He tried to pull a delivery from Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera in the fifth ball of the 11th over during Dhaka’s innings.

The ball hit his gloves, and that created the injury.

Shakib came to the post-match press conference after their 17-run loss to Comilla, and at that time it was not revealed that he is carrying the injury.

The scan on his injured finger was done after the game and after the report came, it was revealed that he will be out of action for around a month.

BCB’s senior physician Dr Debashish Chowdhury said, “An x-ray was done after the game and the results have confirmed a fracture on the left ring finger. The affected area will now have to be immobilised for around three weeks.”

Bangladesh will play a series of three one-day internationals against the Kiwis, which will start from Wednesday and will end on February 20.

The first Test match will begin on February 28 while the second and penultimate Test will commence on March 8.

If Shakib’s injury persists, he will miss these two Tests as well.

The third Test will get underway on March 16.

Shakib was supposed to fly to New Zealand Saturday night with ODI captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza, Tamim Iqbal, Rubel Hossain and Saifuddin.

BCB has not declared a replacement for Shakib till the reports was filed in.

Shakib has missed a lot of competitive action last year due to a finger injury, that he incurred in the final of the tri-nation series at home against Sri Lanka in January.

He later sat out the Test and T20I series at home against the Lankans, and missed the initial phase of the Nidahas Trophy T20I in Sri Lanka.

The all-rounder also had to return home early from the UAE in September, before the Asia Cup final.

He later missed the Zimbabwe series at home.

Meanwhile, pacer Taskin Ahmed was earlier ruled out from the ODI squad owing to injury.

In their last tour of New Zealand in 2016-17, the Tigers suffered series sweeps in all three formats – Tests, ODIs and T20Is.
