A look-back at the other sports of Bangladesh in 2018

January: Siddikur Rahman wins the inaugural Dhaka Open with a four-shot victory. Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman finishes runners-up in the Delhi Open International GM tournament. 

March-April: Bangladesh women’s handball team won bronze in the 5th South Asian Championship in India.

April: Shakil Ahmed earns Bangladesh its first silver medal in Commonwealth Games pistol (50m air) event after 27 years, while Abdullah Hel Baki retains silver in the prestigious 10m air rifle, in Gold Coast, Australia.

National volleyball team became runners-up in the Bangabandhu Asian Senior Men’s Central Zone International Championship in Mirpur, Dhaka.

Bangladesh youth gymnastic team made their first international appearance abroad at the 15th Junior Artistic Championship in Indonesia. 

May: Bangladesh archers win five gold, five silver and a bronze medal in the 2nd International Islamic Solidarity Archery Championship in Dhaka. 

June: Wohaimong Marma secures bronze in the vaulting table event of the 15th Singapore Open Gymnastic Championship.

July: Manon wins gold in U-8 age category of the Commonwealth Chess Championship in New Delhi. 

August: Bangladesh take part in 14 events in the Asian Games in Indonesia, and remain medalless.  

September: Bangladesh make it to the semi-final in their first appearance in the Asian Volleyball Challenge Cup.

October: Siddikur finishes third after falling short on the final hole of the Panasonic Open India.

December: Mabia Akter Shimanta and Smriti Akter clinch silvers in the 5th ISSF International Solidarity Weightlifting Championship in Cairo, Egypt.
