Bangladesh’s Syed Nuruzzaman claimed silver medal in the men’s veteran category (35-plus years) at the 9th Commonwealth Karate Championship 2018 in Durban, South Africa.

Previously in 2015, Nuruzzaman had also sealed silver in India at the 8th edition of the same competition.

An elated Nuruzzaman said, “Feels good. A bit down at not being able to win gold. I am sure I lost out on the gold due to jet-lag. I arrived in South Africa only 16 hours before the start of the tournament. Couldn’t sleep at night. It had an effect on my performance. Otherwise I could have bagged gold. Walton Group sponsored me in this tournament. I thank them.”

Participants from 16 countries took part in the competition.
