At Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium, Khulna, Sajedul Islam was the star for Rangpur as his 6/81 bundled Khulna out for 304 runs before his side ended the day on 200/4
The second day of the second round matches at the National Cricket League were affected by weather as two of the four games were yet to start while the other two saw some parity of batting and bowling Tuesday.
At Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium, Khulna, Sajedul Islam was the star for Rangpur as his 6/81 bundled Khulna out for 304 runs before his side ended the day on 200/4.
Khulna started the day on 272/7 before Sajedul, who had bagged four wickets on the first day, added two more wickets in his bag but overnight batman Ziaur Rahman stretched his innings from 33 to 53 that helped his side get past the 300-run mark.
In reply, Rangpur opener Jahid Jabed made a steady start and formed two partnerships of 56 and 61 runs respectively with Mehedi Maruf (30) and Mahmudul Hasan (15) before getting out for 64 off pacer Al-Amin Hossain.
Al-Amin, who is out of national reckoning currently, got 3/37 but Sohrawardi Shuvo remained not out on 47 alongside Tanbir Hayder (five) and helped the side reach the 200-mark before stumps.
In the other match, Dhaka Metropolis bowler Taskin Ahmed made an impressive show as he picked up three wickets conceding 46 runs but thanks to an unbeaten 81-run innings of Tasamul Haque, Chittagong ended the day on 187/6 replying to Metro’s 287 at Shaheed Chandu Stadium, Bogra.
But few of the players felt the turf of Bogra was heavy and it was evident as pacer Taskin left the field with cramps without finishing his over. Some other players were also seen struggling on the field.

Metro started the day on 266/6 with Zabid Hossain not out on 79. But the wicketkeeper-batsman fell as a victim of nervous ninety as he was adjudged leg before off seamer Mehedi Hasan Rana for 90 to leave the side on 285/7.
Another overnight batsman Taskin, who made a 69-run stand with Zabid, was dismissed three balls latter for 29 by off-spinner Nayeem Hassan before skipper Arafat Sunny was stumped off the same bowler for an eight-ball duck.
All three wickets fell for the same score and brought Shamsur Rahman, who was retired hurt for 50 in the first day, but he could add just one more run as the last man Shahidul Islam was trapped leg before off Rana without scoring.
Nayeem was the pick of the bowlers with 3/74 while Rana, Hassan Mahmud and Shahkhawat Hossain grabbed two wickets apiece.
In reply, Chittagong lost wickets at regular intervals and were reduced to 135/6 before two not out batmen Tasammul and Rana (15 not out) added 52 for their unbroken stand.
Apart from Taskin’s three, Sunny, Mohammad Ashraful and Shahidul Islam got one wicket each.
Meanwhile, two other matches, Barishal versus Rajshahi at Barisal Divisional Stadium and Dhaka’s game against Sylhet at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium Academy Ground, Cox's Bazar were yet to start due to bad weather and wet outfield.
