‘Kura Pokkhir Shunne Ura’ and ‘JK 71’ competing at KIFF
The 28th edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival will screen 180 films from 42 countries.
Bangladeshi films “Kura Pokkhir Shunne Ura” by Muhammad Kayum, and “JK 71” by Fakhrul Arefin Khan have been nominated at the 28th edition of the prestigious Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF).
“Kura Pokkhir Shunne Ura” (The Golden Wings of Watercocks), the debut film of filmmaker Muhammad Kayum has been selected under the “International Competition: Innovation in Moving Images” category. The film revolves around the struggling life of the people from Haor region.
“I am really happy that my film was nominated under such an important category. This recognition motivates us to dream even bigger,” Muhammad Kayum expressed his excitement.
Fakhrul Arefin Khan's “JK 1971” has been selected under the “Asian Seect (NETPAC)” category of KIFF. The film is based on Jean Kay, a French citizen who hijacked a plane in 1971 to support Bangladesh in the liberation war.
Director Fakhrul Arefin Khan said, “The film has already been screened at a number of film festivals. It feels great to participate in Kolkata.”
The 28th edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival was inaugurated on December 15 and will run till December 22. This edition of the film fest will screen 180 films from 42 countries.
